IIUM, the Education Hub of the Islamic World

Since its establishment in 1983, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has been an undisputed leader in the Islamic world for its ability to attract international students from all around the globe. More than 96,000 students have graduated from IIUM among which more than 14,000 are international students in more than 90 countries.

Alumni Relations Division

To keep the relation ties strong between its current students, staff and lecturers, and its alumni, IIUM has established the Alumni Division. The division takes the responsibility of liaising with graduates informing them about the development inside the university, assisting their personal and career development and celebrating their accomplishments.

IIUM Alumni has more than 14,000 international alumni

IIUM has now established a strong international alumni network with its alumni spanning the five continents from Peru to Japan. Alumni has more than 14,000 international alumni who went back to their countries to establish successful productive careers with some of them reaching the level of ministers and CEOs.

The success stories of our alumni include Director General/ Chief Judge of Department of Syariah Judiciary Malaysia YAA Dato’ Dr. Hj. Mohd Naim Hj. Mokhtar, CEO of Bank Islam Mr. Muazzam Mohamad, CEO of MIMOS Mdm. Emelia Matrahah, Minister of Islamic affairs in Maldives Mr. Ahmed Zahir, Governor of Reserve Bank of Fiji Mr. Faizul Ariff Ali, CEO of Bosna Bank International Mr. Amer Bukvic, Head Of Strategic Development & Data Management at Westminster International University in Tashkent Surayyo Shaamirova,  and many more.

The Alumni Relations Division has established more than 30 chapters all around the world including countries like Australia, Albania, Indonesia, Kenya, Oman, China and many more.

The Alumni Relations Division has also established a few programs for past students to give back and help bright students who have financial difficulties pursue their studies through donation to the fund Alsafa. This program provides aid for international as well as local outstanding students and receives contributions from IIUM alumni and the general public. It represents a great opportunity for generous individuals who want to purify their wealth and make their charity more meaningful.

The Alumni Relations Division organizes many workshops and gatherings to strengthen student’s academic, spiritual and networking aspects. It has organized more than 20 events in the current academic year ranging from open launches to seminars to Tazkirah.

Scholarships and Financial Assistance

IIUM believes in equal opportunity for all students regardless of their financial abilities. It has purposefully made a part of the Financial Units’ responsibility to provide financial assistance to bright students and act as the liaison between the students and sponsors willing to contribute to the provision of equal opportunities to all students.

IIUM scholarship and financial assistance to international students include:

IIUM Academic Excellence Award

IIUM believes that equal opportunity also means recognizing the achievements of students with outstanding academic record. This recognition is given to students who fulfill the following criteria:

  • Registered as full-time Undergraduate student
  • Second year student and above at the Kulliyyah level
  • Student with excellent academic standing (CGPA of 3.8 and above – with minimum of 15 credit hours) based on the University general academic workload policy
  • Self-sponsored and loan recipient only (please attach the loan offer letter)

This award is announced at the beginning of each semester and the results are usually announced within a week of the Financial Assistance Committee meeting.

IIUM UG Ummatic Scholarship

This program aims to provide needy students who achieved an excellent academic record in their first year of study (CGPA of 3.6 and above – with minimum of 15 credit hours, students from Muslim minority country with CGPA of 3.00 and above may apply for the scholarship) with a financial assistance that cover all the following costs:

  • Tuition fee
  • Related fee
  • Monthly allowance
  • Hostel fee
  • Book allowance
  • Insurance (once only)

This scholarship is offered every semester and students are usually awarded the scholarship within a month of conducting the interview.

IIUM Tuition Fee Reduction

To enable students who are not entirely financially incapable but have a difficulty in paying the total amount of tuition fees, IIUM established the program Tuition Fee Reduction. This program will reduce up to 80% of the outstanding fees for students who fulfill the following criteria:

  • International student.
  • Registered as full-time Undergraduate student.
  • Second year student at Kulliyyah level and above.
  • Do not receive any other scholarship.
  • Student with CGPA of 3.0 and above (with at least 15.0 credit hours) based on the University general academic workload policy.
  • Poor student (needy) as identified by the University authority.
  • Show commitment in paying the balance of outstanding debt.

This program is announced at the beginning of each semester and student will be notified with the results within a month of conducting the interview.

Recognition of Palestinian Students

Recognizing the suffering of Palestinian people, IIUM treats Palestinian students equally with local Malaysian students by lowering their tuition fees to match the local tuition fees. This treatment is given to students who fulfill the following criteria:

  • Registered as full-time Undergraduate and Postgraduate student from Palestine
  • First semester student at Kulliyyah level and above
  • Do not receive any other scholarship
  • Needy student

This assistance is offered in at the beginning of each semester and students are notified of the results within a month of the interview.
