Cancelling JPA overseas bursaries saves gov RM240m a year

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman said that the government saves RM240 million a year after cancelling 744 scholarships for overseas studies.

A written reply by the parliament today showed that the average cost for sponsoring an overseas study is RM322,580.65.

This is far more expensive compared to sponsoring a student for local study in Malaysia which costs RM12,690.

The 744 students whose overseas scholarships have been cancelled, will be sponsored to study at any local universities/institutions instead.
