IT is the most in-demand skill required today, with the various sub-specialties in IT occupying the top 3 positions of a LinkedIn survey to determine the most in-demand skills of 2017.
With so many degree options out there, here are some top reasons why you should study Information Technology:
People who study Information Technology are creative and would usually become good problem-solvers. Thinking outside the box is part and parcel of what you will be equipped with, with this degree.
With the world already so advanced in technology, IT has become the bread and butter of almost every business, or at least a medium employers must have, to market their products or services to survive in the competitive industry. So think about websites such as Zalora, Amazon, YouTube, Google, and even the very site you’re in now. Who ensures there is no glitch? Who gets rid of technical errors or run scripts and remove software bugs? Why, an IT professional, of course! So rest assured, with skills and expertise, there will be plenty of vacancies for you.
Yes, you read that right. Since almost every business rely on some sort of technology, you can apply for jobs in any field! You’re not limited to the typical IT companies but can also be exposed to the fashion, health, banking, education and media industry.
“Information Technology has brought people much closer together than ever before, providing a democratising and mostly stabilising influence.”
- Dan Quayle

Important Note: If you opt to study a Diploma in Information Technology and continue your degree at the same institution, you will most likely get a one-year exemption. This means that you can enter degree year 2 after diploma.
It is not necessary for you to do your postgraduate but doing so would help you advance in your career and open up more job opportunities. You can opt to work straight after degree as well
This was obvious, wasn’t it? To make it in IT you need to know how computers function, going much further than just playing solitaire on it. You probably love to tweak and meddle with your PC at home to get the best performance out of it.
While you’re not bad at studying books when necessary, you’ll need to be extra skilful with the practical portion of everything. Almost everything in the IT worlds is practical. So while memorising is good, to make it, you’ll need to properly understand and implement the concepts you learn in real-life scenarios.
It’s been noted for some time now that IT is the most in-demand skillset required. As such, you will need to be someone who thinks way ahead, thinking of the next big thing and how you can possibly make that happen.
Remember those late nights you spent the day before an exam? Cramming everything in as you left it till the last minute. Well that won’t work in IT. You need to be consistent in your assignments and work or else you’ll fail.
