Which Universities Offer Engineering for Arts Stream Students?

Did you complete SPM examinations with a pang of regret now that you’re at the course-choosing stage of your higher education journey? You want to pursue an engineering degree, but you were from the Arts stream in secondary school? Does this mean that you’ll have to retake your SPM exams with pure science subjects?

Before making the hasty decision to do just that, consider this! These two universities below offer diploma programmes in engineering without having to come from the Science stream during SPM! Yes, you heard that right. Read on below for more details!


AIMST University

AIMST University in Bedong, Kedah

Study Pathway for Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering

According to the progression pathway for the Engineering programme in AIMST University, you’re eligible to apply for the Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering programme as long as you have completed your SPM exams, regardless whether you were in the Arts or Science stream!

Once you’ve completed your diploma programme, you can advance to the bachelor’s degree in AIMST or any other university that accepts the qualification.

Entry Requirements for Diploma in Engineering programmes

Similarly, IUKL offers various diploma programmes in Engineering that also won’t require you to have been in the Science stream during your SPM. All you need is a minimum of 3Cs in your SPM results, including one Maths subject and one Science subject. IUKL offers the following diploma programmes in engineering:

  • Diploma in Automotive Engineering
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering
  • Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Diploma in Geomatic Engineering
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

You’ll also be able to continue with the bachelor’s degree in IUKL upon completion.
