Cabinet has already approved Universiti Malaysia Sabah's plan to set up a university hospital in campus. To date, the UMS is awaiting approval of the contractor by the federal government. The hospital is expected to have a 400-bed capacity.
According to UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Harun Abdullah, the hospital will positively impact the university's academic performance as well as improve medical service outreach in Sabah.
At the moment, UMS medical students have their training in Sandakan and around Kota Kinabalu.
