If you’re graduating from college soon, it’s time to think about which university you want to enrol in. Needless to say, this is something important as not only will you be spending the next 3 or more years there, but the university you choose will play a role in your employability in the future. This is because recruiters tend to prefer candidates from certain universities when filtering applications.
Well then, which university will make me the most employable you ask? Here’s the top 5 universities with the most employable graduates in Malaysia, according to the QS Graduate Employability Rankings:
This doesn’t come as a surprise as UM has been on top of the list for years and is regarded as the best university in Malaysia. However, compared to 2019, the public university has jumped from the 161-170 range to the 141-150 range in the global rankings. This improvement is a testament to the advantage UM students receive when jobhunting.
Securing its position as the top private university in Malaysia, Taylor’s University ranks after UM in graduate employability. Just in the past year, the institute’s standing in the World University Rankings has experienced a huge leap, from placing No. 514 to No. 379 in 2020. It also managed to achieve QS’s 5 Stars rating for online learning, highlighting its exceptional usage of the online platform following the temporary campus closure.
UCSI University is the third Malaysian higher education institute on the list. In fact, UCSI has the same rank as UM for alumni outcomes, which refers to the alumni networks the university has that provides students with connections, career advice, as well as internship opportunities. These are all factors that enhance a graduate’s employability.
Coming in 4th is UTAR, a non-profit private university that has campuses in Sungai Long and Kampar. Despite ranking lower on the list, it scored the highest in the graduate employment rate category, which measures the number of alumni who are working a year after graduation. It has a graduate employability rate of 95-97% 6 months upon graduation.
Although MSU stands lower than UTAR on QS’s list, the Ministry of Education ranked it first place for graduate employability in Malaysia with 98.7 % of MSU graduates securing employment within 6 months of graduation. MSU also has a high score for employer-student connections which involves the presence of employers on the university’s campus presenting network opportunities and other important information for employment to students.
