Have you ever wondered how universities like Multimedia University (MMU) stay at the forefront of education and innovation?
Similar to the power of partnerships in a group project, where each member's diverse strengths synergise to achieve success, MMU's collaboration with renowned institutions and companies worldwide enriches its students' learning experience and helps take Malaysia’s education to new heights.
Accelerating Research and Development
MMU believes that research and development are the keys to unlocking the world's mysteries and addressing global challenges.
In April 2023, MMU's Faculty of Engineering (FOE) welcomed Infinecs Systems Sdn Bhd, a prominent Penang-based electronic design service company, to the Cyberjaya campus. Led by Indinecs’s CEO Mr Kalai Selvan, the team participated in the iCadet programme.
Days before the visit, MMU and Infinecs formalised their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), emphasising the support for various programmes such as iCadet, industrial training and Final Year Projects (FYP).
By collaborating with Infinecs, MMU gains access to cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions facilitated by Infinecs' keen interest in establishing joint research projects. This collaboration involves the sponsorship of Master's and PhD students, focusing on research topics in Analog Mixed Signal and RISC-V, providing invaluable resources to drive MMU's research and development endeavours.
The most exciting aspect of these collaborations is how they enhance the educational experience for MMU's students. With access to industry-leading expertise, students can explore more exciting learning opportunities and pursue groundbreaking discoveries in electronics.
Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Innovation
In recent years, Malaysia has placed a growing emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship. This is to drive economic progress and enhance the country's economic landscape. Embracing this trend, MMU has taken proactive steps to instil this within its students and faculties.
A notable initiative that exemplifies MMU's dedication is its partnership with Idea Company Sdn Bhd, which developed the Smart Precision Agriculture Junior Growers Programme.
By leveraging MMU's extensive range of faculties and combining it with Idea Company's well-established agricultural and food distribution ecosystem, the programme is strategically designed to nurture and empower a new generation of farmers.
Malaysia paves the way for the next generation in the farming sector to flourish by embracing technology and nurturing entrepreneurship.
MMU plays a pivotal role in providing not just the assessment of participants, but also hands-on training modules on subjects such as Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship and Business Management. Meanwhile, Idea Company Sdn Bhd provides internship opportunities at its farms and network of farmers, participation in farming research and development, and input on modern farming value chains.
This initiative represents a step forward in the evolution of Malaysia's agricultural sector, aligning with the country's aspirations to be a knowledge-based economy and embrace Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) technologies.
By offering access to industry mentors and market opportunities, MMU actively contributes to propelling its students’ ventures toward success. This focus on nurturing entrepreneurship not only stimulates economic development and job creation but also solidifies MMU's position as a leading academic institution for fostering innovative minds.
Cultivating International Partnerships
MMU's commitment to fostering academic excellence is exemplified through its strategic partnerships with renowned universities worldwide. One memorable collaboration took place with De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) in the Philippines.
During this programme, 14 students from MMU's Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) engaged in various activities including a Community Social Responsibility (CSR) project, where they organised a Basic AutoCAD workshop for high school students and contributed to planting approximately 200 mangrove trees in the Batangas coastline.
Additionally, they attended workshops on Green University initiatives, focusing on environmental conservation and sustainable practices in campus development. The students also had the opportunity to explore various cultural and historical sites, enriching their cross-cultural learning experiences.
These opportunities have been nothing short of transformative for the participating students, leaving an incredible mark on their academic and personal development. They have shaped the students' characters, broadened their perspectives and equipped them with essential skills to thrive in an interconnected and diverse world.
MMU's commitment to fostering cross-cultural learning experiences through its partnerships has undoubtedly enriched the lives of its students, preparing them to be well-rounded global citizens capable of making a positive impact on society.
Building Bridges of Excellence
On 21 June 2023, MMU's Faculty of Business (FOB) at the Melaka campus organised the Industrial Handshake Programme (IHP), a collaborative event with Info-Tech Systems Integrators (M) Sdn Bhd.
During the event, students demonstrated their expertise and innovative ideas through presentations that captivated the audience. They were also rigorously evaluated by Info-Tech industry experts and university faculty members.
By providing a platform for students to showcase their talents, the programme unlocked doors to meaningful interactions between students and industry professionals.
Thus, it has undoubtedly strengthened the bond between academia and the corporate world, fostering a symbiotic relationship that promotes growth and development in both spheres.
This fruitful collaboration not only benefits the students by equipping them with invaluable exposure and experience but also enriches the industry by tapping into the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas of the academic world. By nurturing this collaborative environment, MMU has solidified its reputation as a forward-thinking institution that nurtures holistic professionals.
As MMU continues to expand its network of collaborations, it reinforces its position as a leading academic institution and a key player in driving positive change on a global scale.
