About 700 students of Multimedia University gathered at the President Square at the university campus at Bukit Beruang to protest the increase in their fee of up to RM1,000 a year, effective last month.
Previously the information technology and library fee was only RM200 a year. A month before the students' protest, university students' representatives had met with the MMU management several times in hopes to resolve the matter.
According to MMU management, the new rate fee has been approved by the Educaiton Ministry and is low compared with other private universities. A meeting with the students will be scheduled after the Aidilfitri celebration to explain to them the reason for the new fee.
The peaceful protest took more than an hour and dispersed at noon.
