  • UEC will only be recognised once changes have been implemented in its syllabus

Early this year, talks on Unified Examination Certificate's possible recognition in public institutions of higher education came to the fore.  Since then bilateral talks between the Ministry of Education and the United Chinese School Committees'Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) have been made which until now have not progressed.

According to Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Dong Zong has not declared its willingness to agree to the conditions. The conditions includes students to score at least a credit in Bahasa Malaysia in the SPM examination and adding more local content in history and geography subjects of the UEC syllabus.

Quoted in the Malaysian Insider, the Minister concluded that if they (Dong Zong) are ready to make the changes then we (Ministry of Education) have no problem.
