Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka (KUIM) will offer 16 new programmes to become a full-fledged university next year.  The programmes comprised three at the diploma level, 12 at the Bachelor's degree level and one at the doctoral level, including in the field of early childhood education and mass communications.

"Actually, we have already reached the minimum number of students required as a full university, that is 5,000 students, but we want KUIM to become a highly competitive full-fledged university and not just meeting the minimum requirements," said Deputy Vice-chancellor Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr Baharudin Puteh.

Baharudin said the proposal to upgrade KUIM to a full university had been submitted to the Education Ministry early this year, but had to be finalised.

Presently, KUIM offers 36 programmes at the diploma, degree, masters and doctoral levels at its six faculties, namely Nursing, Hospitality Management, Science and Technology, Arts and Social Sciences, Business Innovation and Islamic Studies Academy.
