KKTM and IKM to become MARA University Colleges

The Ministry of Education has offered MARA to upgrade its skills training colleges - Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara (KKTM) and Institut Kemahiran Mara (IKM) to MARA University Colleges. This upgrade will take a year or two.

There are 23 IKM and KKTM nationwide with a student population of more than 15,000. MARA had trained about 30 per cent of skilled and semi-skilled workers in the country, including those in small-medium industry.

This however will be studied in depth as the upgrading will require huge investment, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. He added that the facilities of these institutions need to support world-class human capital.
