Intense competition caused almost all Malaysian public universities to fall in QS World University Rankings 2013
- Malaysia's local universities in the QS World University Rankings 2013 have showed weak performance compared with last year.
- Of all Malaysian universities in the list, only Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) climbed three places up to 355 (see table below).
- The fall in rankings among Malaysian universities is caused by fierce competition and the lack of highly-cited research.
- Universities in the list are being scored according to academic reputation (40%), citations per faculty (20%), faculty student ratio (20%), employer reputation (10%), proportion of international students (5%) and proportion of international faculty(5%)
