Intense competition caused almost all Malaysian public universities to fall in QS World University Rankings 2013

Malaysia's local universities in the QS World University Rankings 2013 have showed weak performance compared with last year.
Of all Malaysian universities in the list, only Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) climbed three places up to 355 (see table below).
The fall in rankings among Malaysian universities is caused by fierce competition and the lack of highly-cited research.
Universities in the list are being scored according to academic reputation (40%), citations per faculty (20%), faculty student ratio (20%), employer reputation (10%), proportion of international students (5%) and proportion of international faculty(5%)
