  • To regulate as well as ensure the quality of foreign students coming in the country, the Higher Education MInistry announced that international students with scholarships will be given priority to study in Malaysia as opposed to self-funding foreign students.
  • Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said foreign students on scholarships from recognised international bodies were top achievers and were vetted and screened in their respective countries before being sent overseas for studies.
  • "We will focus on these students as most of them are unlikely to cause disciplinary problems or commit crimes during their stay here," he said.
  • Furthermore, the country aims to increase the number of foreign students from developed countries.
  • To date, there are about 20,000 Malaysian students studying in Australia but only 200 Australians studying in Malaysia.
