Choosing a course is indubitably one of the most difficult decisions a student will have to make, and rightly so. However, after the long hours an individual spends conducting research, one other decision tends to be swept under the rug, more often than not, unintentionally. While choosing a course is hugely important, it’s also imperative to devote time to choose an appropriate intake to apply for. Many students will opt to chill after SPM, and brush the decision off till much later, all the while scoffing, “Why is it so important to choose an early intake date?”. Well, read on and find out why this is.
2019 Intake is Now Open
One of the main reasons a student should choose as early an intake date as possible following SPM is simply to get a head start on everyone else. Like a 100-metre sprint in the Olympics, runners are penalised or disqualified if they take off before the starting gun goes off because they would then have an unfair advantage. In a similar way, a student who joins early is that runner, taking off before any of his/her compatriots can, and the best part of it all is that you will not be disqualified, and it’s totally fair. Such an advantage may seem inconsequential on the surface of things, but in such a competitive employment climate, every head start counts.
Another reason why choosing an early intake date would be beneficial because it allows a student to set a deadline for themselves. Far too often, students leaving school are unable to do things for themselves. When it comes to choosing a course, many of them dilly-dally and never truly put in any research into what they want to do, continually postponing a decision that will never arrive. If a student decides to set a deadline for themselves, he/she would be more inclined to decide sooner rather than later. For example, if you don’t know what to pursue after completing SPM 2018, you could decide to join the March 2019 intake of a university. Now, you know that the clock is ticking, and you will have to decide before the final grain of sand falls into the bottom half of the hourglass.
The final reason why intake dates are so important is to, well, avoid rust. No, we don’t mean that kind of rust so please put the WD-40 away. The rust we’re referring to is caused by students who fall into the post-exam coma, deciding to do nothing but eat, sleep, and watch some TV. Now, we’re not saying a little of that isn’t permitted, of course it is! You finished a big exam after all, and all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. But stay too long in limbo, and it slowly becomes a habit. Choosing an early intake date would give students the push they need to jump head first into their futures.
Now you know why intake dates are important, and why they should not be shunned. Progressing towards the next step, you’ll have to look for universities which have already publicised their intake dates. One such university is Curtin University Sarawak, that has an intake both in February and March. The programmes on offer consist of Foundation studies as well as Bachelor’s degree programmes. But why should you consider Curtin University Sarawak?
Curtin University Excels in University Rankings
While many students may not know of Curtin University Sarawak, after reading through the list of their awards and recognitions, from both local and international organisations, they’d wish they would’ve known about them sooner. Locally, Curtin University Sarawak has the distinction of being awarded 5-stars by SETARA in 4 consecutive evaluations. Overseas, Curtin University was ranked in the top 1 percent of universities worldwide (Academic Ranking of World Universities 2017). Curtin University also placed in the more widely known QS World University Rankings (262), as well as the QS World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50 (22). Oh, and rubber stamping their quality is QS, who awarded them 5-stars as well.
International Options & Degrees
Curtin University Sarawak students are awarded certificates from Curtin’s main campus, located in Australia, all of which come with MQA accreditation. Additionally, there are flexible transfer options for Curtin University Sarawak students, giving them an opportunity to complete their degrees at Curtin’s other campuses in Perth, Singapore or Dubai.
Receive an Affordable Australian Education
Many students dream of boarding a plane and flying off overseas, above the clouds and alighting on foreign soil, proceeding to study at a foreign university -- something which has always been shrouded in an aura of coolness, something that hasn’t wavered till today. Prices, though, is the biggest stumbling block to any student who may not be very well off. Fees are one thing, but coupled with the average cost of living in a country such as Australia, and the dream firmly remains just that. With Curtin University Sarawak, students will be able to receive the same education and degree as those at its main campus in Perth, at a much more affordable rate, with the cost of living no different than they’re used to, saving thousands in the process.
Scholarships galore
If the fees are still a hindrance for some students, then you’ll be happy to know that Curtin University Sarawak offers multiple scholarships to academically brilliant students. These scholarships extend to Foundation programmes as well, allowing those who’ve performed admirably in SPM to receive their due reward in the shape of a tuition waiver. Curtin University Sarawak has internal scholarships, namely the CSM Scholar (Degree), the WA Premier Scholarship, Dean’s Scholar and the Pro Vice Chancellor’s International Scholar. Whereas external scholarships include the Daikin & STA Scholarship, The Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship, PENERAJU Scholarship, the Yayasan Sarawak Bestari Scholarship, Biasiswa Kerajaan Negeri Sabah Scholarship and the MREPC Scholarship Award.
Clearly then, choosing an intake date is very important, almost as important as choosing a course is, and one of the universities with a forthcoming intake is Curtin University Sarawak. While students may find it difficult to choose from such an array of options, for the reasons above, Curtin University Sarawak should be taken into consideration.
