Have you heard of the word, “aviation”? Aviation refers to flying using an aircraft, but it is also associated with the activities and industries related to flight, such as air traffic control.

Aviation is a blooming and enriching industry but more often than not, a career in aviation gets sweep under the rug when people bring up potential career paths for SPM leavers. Unlike medicine or engineering, no one really mentions aviation unless they’re familiar with it. So what happens to those that want to know more?

Careers in Aviation Industry

Pilots and air stewardess aren’t the only ones working with airplanes.

If you’re interested in aviation, besides other employment opportunities, you also have the chance to work as Licensed and Non-Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Personnel. Likewise, you can also work towards enriching yourself and upgrade your qualifications towards engineering and managerial positions by acquiring other qualifications such as MBA.

 

 

Where Should I Go?

If you’re interested in a career path in aviation, consider Allied Aeronautics Training Centre (ALLIED)!

ALLIED is a great choice because they are an approved maintenance training organization, which means they’re 100% compliant with CAAM requirements.  ALLIED provides dedicated engineers and specialists for students’ technical development as well as character grooming and are focused on license training; it is to be noted that only license certifiers are qualified to handle aircrafts. 

ALLIED’s license are also globally recognized, which is the Part-66 Category A1 License. Most importantly, ALLIED only provides quality training with its structured on-job-training of 12 Months and their MRO like environment, with its industry driven training facilities and ambiance.

 

 

What Can I Pursue There?

ALLIED offers one foundation programme and three programmes under their Aircraft Maintenance Programme.

To make it easier for you to understand, we’ve compiled a brief explanation of each of the courses, from what the overview is, to its content as well as its entry requirements.

 

Allied Foundation Programme for SPM Leavers

This programme was introduced to expose students to foundational competencies needed before signing up for a more focused area of training in the aviation sector. The Allied Foundation Programme only lasts for six months and students are exposed to basic subjects including Basic Physics and Basic Aerodynamics.

To qualify for the programme, please ensure that you are at least 18 years old and an SPM certificate holder, with a passing grade in Bahasa Melayu and History. Do ensure that you also have 3 credits in English, Maths, Physics or Science. This programme is opened to both science and non-science stream students.

CAAM Part-66 Category A1 for SPM Leavers

CAAM Part-66 Category A1 (Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Programme) is a Government (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia under Ministry of Transport)'s endorsed programme to train, facilitate & qualify individuals who aspire to become licensed aircraft maintenance certifiers.

The total period length of the programme is 27 months which includes MRO activities (maintenance, repair and overhaul) for approximately 12 months. Students will be expose to theoretical training in the classroom (30%) as well as practical training in the workshops and laboratories (70%).

To qualify, students must be at least 18 years old and have completed their SPM or equivalent, with a passing grade in both Bahasa Melayu and History. Students must also have 3 credits in either English, Maths & Physics or Science. Another requirement is students’ medical fitness which must be supported by medical reports and students must also not be a colour blind.

DKM for SPM Leavers

ALLIED’s Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (Aircraft Maintenance Programme) is a Government endorsed programme to train, facilitate and qualify individuals who aspire to work as non-licensed personnel in the aviation sector. The length of the programme is 36 months (inclusive of 6 months of On-Job-Training; OJT).

In terms of entry requirements, students must not be younger than 18 years old, have taken their SPM or equivalent, and must obtain a passing grade in their Bahasa Melayu and History as well as three credits in English, Maths, Physics or Science. Once again, student must also be medically fit and cannot be a colour blind.

CAAM Part-66 Category A1 for Diploma Holders

CAAM Part-66 Category A1 (Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Programme) is a Government (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia under Ministry of Transport)'s endorsed programme to facilitate training for DIPLOMA (in Aircraft Maintenance) Holders and upgrade and upskill them to become licensed certifiers. Much like the programme for SPM leavers, this course will take around 27 months to complete with the same MRO activities (12 months).

Students’ assessment includes theoretical training in the classroom (30%) and practical training (70%). For diploma holders, students must have completed a Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance or equivalent in any credible institution of higher learning.
