What skills do you need to become an Graphic Designer?
This is an obvious one. To be a good Graphic Designer, creative juices must flow freely, not limiting your ideas to a box. One way to do this is to go around looking for inspiration to fuel new ideas, be it a walk in the park, bungee jumping or meeting new people, so you never run out of ideas. If your brain is like a canvas, constantly thinking of new ways to make art out of something boring or if you cringe looking at a poster at the sidewalk and think you can do a better job, then this is for you.
The creative industry is filled with people who are just as creative as you but because each one of them has their own style of designing, you will have to be ready to receive criticisms. Your boss, colleagues, clients, whoever it is looking at your designs will criticise you one way or another so just keep an open mind, improve and learn from your mistakes.
If it’s a small company, you might be the only designer but you will still need to work in a team. You will have to liaise with advertisers or those in the marketing communications department to find out important elements to include in the design and specific instructions by the client to ensure you stick to their brand’s image.

As this field leans more towards the practical aspect of education such as a person’s skills the creativity, no official qualifications are needed. Some crucial designing software you will be needing are Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. With a basic Degree in Graphic Design or any of the Design courses, you will be able to apply for a job in this field.
Typically, a Graphic Designer works from 9am to 5pm but this all depends on how fast you can complete the task. If you have not completed it by the end of the day and the deadline is the next day, then you need to work extra hours. The working hours of a freelancer are more flexible than in normal jobs.
