UTM has opened another study pathway for SPM holders through the UTM Foundation Programme. The UTM Foundation Programme, a one-year academic programme offered by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, is an alternative pre-university programme which consists of three major fields; Physical Science, Life Science and Social Science.
The goal of the programme is to ensure that all students are well prepared to pursue bachelor's degree studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or even management at UTM. The one-year full-time programme will be held at UTM Johor Bahru main campus and Kuala Lumpur branch.
The academic session is divided into three semesters, with a focus on physics, chemistry, mathematics, English language, and a few other subjects to meet the requirements of the faculties.
A compact curriculum with guidance by experienced lecturers provide the students with positive exposure to pursuing their degree programmes for the following academic session.
UTM Foundation programme is open to Malaysian and International candidates. For Malaysian citizens, candidates must possess SPM qualifications or its equivalent with a minimum of five (5) credits including Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah, Mathematics and two (2) science subjects.
For those who have passed O-Level, they must obtain at least a grade B in three (3) subjects; Mathematics and two (2) science subjects; or any equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian government.
For international applicants, they must possess O-level or any equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian government.
What are the objectives of this programme?
UTM, through its Foundation Programme ensures that our graduates have made significant progress toward becoming truly educated individuals regardless of their field of study.
The Programme provides the means whereby:
A. Graduates will acquire enhanced understanding on science which will be in the advanced level of studies.
B. Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge to solve any complex problems through critical solving methods.
C. Graduates will be exposed to effective communication skills, as well as the ability to interpret and explain scientific findings correctly.
UTM Foundation is a favourable choice amongst SPM holders due to several attractive factors such as reasonable fee, conducive campus environment, and wide range of peer networking.
Apart from achieving the university's goals of producing high-quality students, our qualified and experienced lecturers are always ready to assist students throughout their learning sessions. Students have always enjoyed their time at UTM because of the state-of-the-art infrastructure and learning facilities. Students can use the world-class research laboratories, which are equipped with the most up-to-date equipment. Such infrastructure will undoubtedly aid students in experiencing a pleasant learning environment and producing high-quality graduates.
There is now a comprehensive e-learning system to ensure that no student is left behind. Source of reference is vital in learning; hence UTM provides UTM provides students with access to a large, easily searchable digital library.
UTM also provides efficient support services in campus. The most crucial of which is the accommodation. Students’ residential colleges are all well-equipped with essential facilities. There is also the Students Health Centre where students receive health consultation and medication in-campus.
Transportation services are also efficient, with a nonstop feeder bus service operating on campus grounds from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
