Oscar Fang Jack Ling and Quah Chun Meng from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia have been crowned the national champions of 2020 ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ASEAN DSE) Malaysian National Finals.
Naming themselves the Psyduck, the duo will be representing Malaysia at the regional final of ASEAN DSE which will be held virtually in November.
Organised by the ASEAN foundation and SAP, the ASEAN DSE is a regional programme that aims to unlock the youth’s potential and create a positive social impact in Southeast Asia.
852 students across Malaysia competed to represent their country in the National Finals. The winners were judged based on their ability to design an innovative and implementable solution addressed to ASEAN socio-economic issues.
National Final 2020 was held virtually via Zoom and streamed live on ASEAN Foundation’s Facebook.
In the competition, the Psyduck decided to focus on building digital economy in ASEAN countries. As the pandemic has made digital technology become more important than ever, the duo believes that it is crucial for ASEAN to equip digital infrastructure and educate its people to become digitally fluent.
