Helpful Tips When Filling the UPU Form

Published by Afterschool.my on Mar 03, 2015, 11:03 am

With your dream course in mind and a clear understanding of which esteemed institution to choose, it's time to fill in your UPU applications! Here are a few things you need to check before taking the first step in your journey to a tertiary education:

Mark deadline dates on your calendar! 1Important events you need to know:

1. When to buy your unique ID number (UPU PIN)

It is advisable to purchase your PIN from the nearest Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), BSN ATM or via SMS Banking (for GIRO account holders only) ONE DAY after the announcement has been released.

2. When to fill in and update the UPU Online Form

Candidates are allowed to submit one (1) application and are allowed UNLIMITED updates until the closing date.

Be aware that there are two phases to the application process

1) SPM leavers

2) STPM/Matriculation/Diploma graduates

SPM leavers are allowed to update and revise their application during phase 2.

Internet and computer issues 2

1. Ensure you have a smooth connection

Nobody likes to do the same thing again and again! Imagine the horror of having to key in your details many times because the Internet connection froze and data was not successfully transmitted the first time.

2. Choose a compatible browser

The UPU official website recommends the use of Firefox and Internet Explorer. Make sure that you have the most current version installed to avoid any glitches.

3. Be safe, not sorry

We have received many questions about lost passwords. Record your password and store it somewhere safe! A password manager such as KeePass may help you manage your passwords in a secure way. You may also key-in your IC number here.

4. Read the manual/guides

Doing this will ensure that you have keyed in all the important details and do so correctly.

5. Enable pop-ups

Some of the features in the UPU online form requires you to enable popups. Learn how to do this for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari here or here.

6. Take screenshots as a soft copy backup

Other than the option available at the end of the form to print your application, you may also use other screen-capture software, apps or plug-ins to save a copy.

The current version of Microsoft Windows has a Snipping Tool pre-built in, but you may also install third party plug-ins such as Nimbus Screenshot.

Pay attention to details! 3

1. Symbols to look out for

All columns marked with an asterisk (*) are MANDATORY so make sure you fill these with your details.

For columns marked with a double asterisk (**) it is MANDATORY for you to choose one of the options available.

2. Know what you want

If pursuing a first degree in USM, UiTM and UM, you will need to apply to the relevant institutions directly.

For those interested in polytechnic, you may also apply online at UPU. However, for graduates with a Community College Certificate, you may apply directly at http://www.politeknik.edu.my/

3. Check and re-check details

Don't be complacent. Go over your form twice or more to check for any typo or mistakes in information.
