The Microsoft Academy TAR UC project - a project led by third-year Bachelor of Communication (Honours) in Advertising students in collaboration with Microsoft Malaysia was held from 22 - 23 September 2022. The two-day workshop perfectly reflected TAR UC’s “Beyond Education” aspiration to provide its students with learning experience beyond academic knowledge and skills.
During the event, the students showcased three different booths namely Tutorial, Practical and Final Year Microsoft Assessment (FYMA), for participants to explore and engage in, including Microsoft Surface devices.
“With a culture of learning comes a sense of community. When you launch a learning project, everyone is simultaneously engaged with the same learning content. This has a significant impact on the effectiveness of the training as it gives informal learning a chance to flourish truly. With a common learning goal, our students are more likely to spark discussions and take part in the same conversations. You never know what new insights these informal discussions might reveal. Successful projects have clear parameters, and so does our project. It is a great opportunity as well as a great experience for us as students to unleash our true potential together. Despite not having real-life experience, we all together managed to pull off organising the event ourselves very well,” commented Microsoft Academy TAR UC Student Project Coordinator, Ally Tan Shu Xin.
Ms Josephine Ng, who was the project advisor and lecturer also weighed in on how hands-on projects with industry players provides student with further insight and experience that greatly benefits their learning outcome.
“Since Advertising is a marketing and communications-based subject, it is very important to be able to convey their messages and ideas in an effective manner. This project encourages the students to produce messages and lessons in a unique way, to inform, to educate, to entertain and to persuade creatively through advertising methods and activities to engage with their audience. It also encourages them to be problem solvers by focusing on issues in their own community.”
