Egypt is a country that primarily speaks Arabic and a basic knowledge in the Arabic language comes as an advantage. The medium of instruction in Egyptian universities is Arabic and English and international students will learn in English.
There are many agents that are promoting studying in Egypt. Some of them are organised and operate in a straight forward manner and - most importantly – legal. However, there are many agents out there that target unsuspecting students and families. In September of 2016, 150 Malaysian students studying medicine in Egypt fell victims to a whopping debt of RM4.5 million in unpaid tuition fees due to the devaluation of the ringgit.
However, the devaluation isn’t the only reason why many of these students were in debt. Unauthorised agents who are preying on students and their families and get them to enrol in universities without having the proper financial support to get them through the admission process.
Students and their families must be vigilant and investigate the case thoroughly and get the securities they need before going to Egypt.
