Study on total institutions needed in Malaysia to be run

The government is running a study to investigate the amount of public and private universities required by the country in order to produce the desired number of graduates.
This study is also to maintain the quality of the universities in Malaysia and strengthen Malaysian education in general.
Building new universities as well as welcoming foreign universities to open up brances in Malaysia are amongst the proposed ideas to build the higher education sector of Malaysia.
The Higher Education Ministry's plan is to enrol 150,000 international students in Malaysia by the year 2015, and 200,000 by 2020. As of April, there are currently 86,000 international students.
Currently, the ratio of university to population in Malaysia is about 1: 400,000 compared to 1: 200,000 in the USA. Having said that, Malaysia falls short in higher education accessibility with only 40% while the USA enjoys 60 - 70% accessibility.
There are 20 public universities and 52 private institutions of higher learning in the country - comprising 25 universities, 22 university colleges and five branch campuses – apart from over 400 private colleges.
