SPM candidates are pleading for the postponement of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, according to Star.
Students have cited online fatigue and lack of time to revise as one of the main reasons the national examination should be postponed. They are also calling for fairness towards those affected by the flood in Pahang and Johor.
Mental health should also be prioritized as many students are still struggling with online classes. Some have shared that certain subjects such as Additional Mathematics and Accounts are “really hard to learn online”.
These students simply wish for extra time.
However not all SPM candidates agree. Some are instead urging the Education Ministry to use the SPM trial results or predicted grades as the final result - much like how Cambridge used forecast results as the official IGCSE 2020 results.
One student continued to suggest that the Education Ministry should “continue SPM trials for states that have not finished or conduct it yet award candidates predicted grades based on several pieces of evidence that could then be used as the actual grades for SPM 2020”.
The candidate, Muhammad Izz Irfan, even advised to make SPM 2020 optional and not mandatory for every candidate.
The consensus is clear, regardless - thousands of students are mentally exhausted by the situation as reflected by a petition on change.org calling for a deferment of the SPM 2020 exams which has gathered over 39,569 signatures.
The pandemic has not been an easy time for both students and teachers.
