The QS World University Ranking 2022 has been announced today. A total of 1,300 universities across the world participated in this survey. In this survey, only 22 Malaysian universities were involved. In comparison to the previous years, the position of the top universities in Malaysia has fallen down.
The university position in the QS World University Ranking is significant as it is used as a guide by local and international students to determine the best university to further their higher education.
University Malaya (UM) known for being the best and the top university in Malaysia fell to the 65th spot with a score of 69.8. In QS World University Ranking 2021, UM was in the 59th spot with a score of 70.1. Here we can see how intense and fierce the competition is, by which with a drop of merely 0.3 in score, UM witnessed a fall by six rungs.
Another 12 Malaysian universities took a tumble and recorded a drop in rankings including University Science Malaysia (USM) now sitting at the 147th spot, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at 144th spot and University Putra Malaysia (UPM) at 143th spot.
However, 5 Malaysian Universities improved on their ranking when compared to the QS World University Ranking 2021. Taylor’s University went up to 332 from a 379. UCSI university also went up to a 347 from 391. Likewise, UTP, UUM and Sunway University also climbed up the ranking.
