QS just released latest subject rankings

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings recently released new rankings based on subjects, and MIT and Harvard took the lead on world’s biggest subject rankings.

The United States once again dominates the ranking, scoring 31 subjects, with MIT and Harvard settling the number one spot in 12 subjects each. There are 551 institutions from 49 countries in the top 100 in at least one subject.

For this ranking, six subjects were added - anthropology, archaeology, mining engineering, nursing, performing arts and social policy.

The subjects were evaluated based on 4 indicators - the opinions of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers, and analysis of 28.5 million research papers and 113 million citations (excluding 25.4 million self-citations) from the Scopus-Elsevier bibliometric database.

Three subjects from two Malaysian universities were listed in these rankings which are Universiti Malaya's (UM) Development Studies Program at the 30th place and Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the 37th. Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia's (USM) Chemical Engineering scored the 46th position.
