Beginning September, the next intake of students in five public universities will be graded using the new integrated cumulative grade point average (CGPA) system.

Malaysia will be the first nation in the world to implement the integrated CGPA which will grade students according to their leadership, values, ethics and contributions to the community.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia would be among the five universities to begin using the integrated CGPA system. The other universities are Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

UPDATE:

The iCGPA grading will be reported in students' scorecards using the 'Spider Web' method which will list down the students' performance in:

  • academic understanding
  • academic skills
  • critical and scientific thinking
  • communication skills
  • social skills, teamwork and humanity
  • ethics, morality and professionalism
  • information management and lifelong learning
  • management and entrepreneurship
  • leadership

The assessment is not only done through activities in the classroom, but also other activities on campus and only one faculty will be chosen from each university.
