Anhyeong! More Korean students to come study in Malaysia

Hey, did you know that there are more than 35 million fans of K-pop and Korean culture worldwide? There is a good chance that if you are reading this, you are one of them.

Also, did you know that South Korea is in the top 5 nations in Asia with the third highest number of their students abroad? Well, now you know.

Part of that large student mobility, South Korea is collaborating with Malaysia to send more Korean students to the country for their higher education. In recent development, Daegu University of Foreign Studies (DUFS) introduced the study of Malay Culture in March of 2016. That means they need people who can write and read Jawi. Where else but in Malaysia can they find such opportunity.

Koreans learning Jawi

Universiti Putra Malaysia has been named as a prime university where students from Korea are expected to learn and improve their Jawi skills, according to Prof Dr Kang Kyoung Seok, an expert on Jawi Writing from DUFS.

Representatives of the Korean institution will be doing research in Malay Language Department, Faculty of Modern Language and Communication. This collaboration is intended to produce Jawi experts who will be able to contribute to the academic field of cultural studies.
