What is MEdSI?

Malaysian Educators Selection Inventory (MEdSI) is a selection test for entry into Education programmes to local public institutions of higher learning (IPTA). It is a psychometric test. There are 300 questions which should be answered within an hour. MEdSI is administered to all candidates who wish to pursue teaching under the Ministry of Higher Education to ensure that teaching candidates selected via UPU are well-rounded in terms of personality, career interests, integrity and emotional intelligence. Only successful candidates will be called for interviews.

The MEdSI test consists of 300 items in four sections, namely:

  • Personality (Personaliti)
  • Career Interest (Minat Kerjaya)
  • Value Integrity (Nilai Integriti)
  • Emotional Intelligence (Kecerdasan Emosi)

Examples of questions include

Personality

  • I'm ready to take on challenges. Yes or no?
  • No matter what, we must stay optimistic. Yes or no?
  • I will try to fix my weaknesses at any time. Yes or no?
  • Like to play football with your friends. Yes or no?
  • Act without thinking of the consequences. Yes or no?

Career Interests

  • Learn from your mistakes. Like or dislike?
  • Working in groups. Like or dislike?
  • Reading the newspaper. Like or dislike?
  • Trying something, oh which success is not certain. Like or dislike?
  • Life with competition. Like or dislike?

Value Integrity

  • Time is gold, so I try to study/learn two subjects simultaneously (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)
  • If I'm wrong, I have to make amends immediately. (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)
  • If I'm busy, I ask my younger brother to help me. (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)

Emotional Intelligence

  • If I see someone drowning, I become frazzled and will feel scared (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)
  • I always remind myself to wipe out angry thoughts at any given time (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)
  • I feel stressed when my supervisor comes to asses my work (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)
  • When under a lot of pressure, it's not easy to handle the mentioned pressure. (Rate from I to IV, with I being strongly disagree and IV being fully agree)
