Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said that there are only 4000 Big Data scientists in Malaysia and the government is recognizing the increasing demand from public and commercial sectors.
He also said that the Malaysian government wishes to be competitive economically on a global scale.
There are currently Big Data Competency Centers established in five public universities which are Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Politeknik Sultan Ibrahim.
