The London School of Economics (LSE) is currently the second highest ranked university in the UK, and is amongst the top forty universities in the world, having a reputation as one of the leading global institutions in research for the social sciences.
Ms Heywood, as LSE’s representative, had come to speak to our students on the importance of preparation for university study, as well as to highlight the advantages of pursuing tertiary education in LSE and the UK. These ranged from access to some of the most extensive and comprehensive academic resources in social science, to a large variety of co-curricular activities, clubs and societies. Students would also be able to participate in real-world research alongside some of the most influential academic figures in the world.
Furthermore, our students were given an insight into the important aspects of applications to university. Heywood’s advice included tips on how to promote themselves as enthusiastic and capable students for their respective courses and universities, as well as notes on important deadlines and the common pitfalls and mistakes that college graduates should avoid in their applications.
At the end of the talk our students eagerly made use of the remaining time to speak directly to Ms Heywood about their studies in greater detail. All in all, it was a very beneficial experience for our students, and we hope that there will be more of such visits in the future. --- Written by Colin Wong
