KYUEM’s young chemists continue to make their mark on Malaysia’s academic landscape by excelling at the prestigious 10th Perak Inter-School Sixth Form Chemistry Quiz, clinching second place among 17 competing schools and showcasing their brilliance in tackling both STPM and Pre-U chemistry challenges.
Exceptional Achievement: The KYUEM team, led by star students Joshua Loy, Teo Yee Tong and Umaira Sofeya, outperformed 15 other institutions to secure the second-highest cumulative score in the competition.
Recognised Excellence: Their outstanding performance earned them a trophy, cash prize and certificates, making it a proud milestone for both students and the KYUEM Chemistry Department.
Collaborative Learning Opportunity
The competition fostered inter-institution collaboration among schools, colleges and the Perak State Education Department, creating a platform for intellectual growth and teamwork.
Future-Focused Theme: This year’s theme, Innovation Unleashed: Empowering Future Technologies Through Chemistry, highlighted the role of chemistry in driving cutting-edge advancements.
The KYUEM Chemistry Department once again received an invitation to participate in the final stage of the “10th PROFESSOR GOH LAI YOONG: Perak Inter-School Sixth Form Chemistry Quiz”. With this year’s theme - Innovation Unleashed: Empowering Future Technologies Through Chemistry, the main objective of this competition is to establish a close relationship among the pre-U schools, A-Level & Foundation Studies institutions, Perak State Education Department and Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) and also to give opportunity for the students to meet and to compete from all the schools and institutions over Perak state in an environment of healthy competition. This year, the competition was takes place at the UniKL Royal College of Medicine, Perak, Ipoh on Saturday, 24th August 2024. Seventeen participating schools and colleges around Perak were participating in the Chemistry Quiz. The Chemistry Quiz covers both STPM and Pre-U Chemistry syllabuses.
Three of their best Chemistry students were selected to represent KYUEM for the Chemistry Quiz, they are: Joshua Loy Kai Siang (ID: 0068/23), Teo Yee Tong (ID: 0013/23), and Umaira Sofeya binti Mohd Asri (ID: 0011/23). Their team achieved Second Place for the year 2024 by getting the second highest cumulative marks for the quiz, defeating 15 other schools and colleges. For Second Place, KYUEM received a trophy, RM150 cash money prize and a certificate for each contestant. It was a very proud and unforgettable moment for these high-achieving students to experience such competition.
