KPJIUC the last to be approved before moratorium on medical courses

  • KPJ International College of Nursing and Health Sciences (KPJIUC) is the last institution of higher learning to be approved before the moratorium on new medical programmes took effect in May, 2011.
  • Reasons given were that:
(a) KPJIUC had applied to offer a medical programme six months ago, before the hold on medical courses wasenforced.(b) KPJIUC was tipped to play a siginificant role in expanding the field of health sciences in Malaysia.
  • There are now 33 universities with medical programmes that have been approved.
  • KPJIUC will be upgraded to university college status as the Ministry of Higher Education was satisfied that the institution had fulfilled the criteria to become a university college.
  • KPJIUC will soon add to the other 21 private institutions of higher learning with university college status, a total of 22 private university colleges.
