  • Mismatch between market demand and courses offered in universities is the root cause of unemployment

Jobs are aplenty in Malaysia, yet a lot of these jobs are not suited with the interest and qualifications of the graduates, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar.

Presently, the unemployment rate has dropped from 3.1% in 2011 to 3% last year.

To help address this problem, government plans to create 1.5 million more jobs compared to onl 1.3 million people in the working force, under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

"It is more important to increase the country's economy so that there would be more job opportunities."

He added that government efforts such as Skim Rakyat 1Malaysia and Graduate Employability Management Scheme (Gems) can also help increase job opportunities for graduates.
