IPTS warned not to put up misleading advertisements

  • Government wants private universities and colleges to practise transparency in their ad campaigns - ads must include the IPTS registration number and ministry-approved courses.
The Higher Education Ministry has advised private institutions of higher learning (IPTS) not to put up misleading advertisements.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung said, misleading advertisements would create a negative impact among students and parents as many depended fully on information provided in advertisements in making a decision.
"Advertisement is among the most efffective way of marketing a certain product or service, nonetheless it should be done in responsible manner by providing accurate information.
"Besides inaccurate information, there were advertisements which were put up without the IPTS registration number and ministry-approved courses," he added.
