Inclusive tertiary education for all

Higher Education Minister shares his aspirations for a holistic education system for all communities in Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Malaysia's Higher Education Minister wrote yesterday in local newspaper, The Star, that the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 and the Higher Education Blueprint 2015-2025 is part of the ministry's aim to ensure that the education system is holistic, accessible and inclusive for all communities including special needs students.

He shared his humbling meeting with postgraduate students with eyesight and genetic difficulties from his recent visit to the Universiti Malaya (UM) in this article. According to him, there are 46 special needs students enrolled in UM, and 10 and 54 students studying at UNIMAS and University Sains Malaysia respectively.

"With the expansion of special needs education at the school level, there is an imperative to ensure that tertiary education is able to meet the needs of society."
