  • Higher education institutions (HEIs) frown upon EMGS' inability to process visa applications of foreign students promptly
  • The new resolution however will only solve 60% of the pending applications

In response to the growing disappointment of HEIs with the new system, the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) has decided to station an immigration team in its office by September which will speed up visa applications of foreign students.

According to to EMGS CEO, Yazi Hamid, this new measure will clear about 60% of the applications within the 14-day frame.

He added that some of the reasons for the delay was because of incomplete applications and that they had to spend a lot of time sending documents to Putrajaya where the Immigration Department was located.

Furthermore, he dispelled claims that EMGS was charging more than HEIs. He said that colleges charge between RM4,500 and RM5,120 whereas EMGS ask for RM1,000 for new applications and RM140 for visa renewal.

Since its operations began, EMGS has received 7,733 and 1,071 new and visa renewal applications respectively.
