The Education Ministry issued a statement today that it strongly prohibits the usage of 1Malaysia Book Voucher (BB1M) to purchase non-academic goods. This statement is in response to complaints they received on the misuse of the BB1M voucher.
The ministry has also streamlined guidelines on issuing BB1M effective May 1. Previously, students can utilise 20 per cent of the voucher value for goods other than books. This relaxation has been removed from the revised guideline which now indicates that BB1M is only for the purchase of academic books, journals and magazines.
Bookshops who are found misusing BB1M will not be allowed to participate in the BB1M programme for three consecutive years.
