Over 18,000 students including top scorers were denied public university seats. In response to this, the Cabinet has directed the Education Ministry to spot the weaknesses of the system as well as how to place those who failed to gain entry in private universities.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam was quoted by the The Star that the ministry has to be more transparent about the selection process.
“I think this can be solved with more transparency, for people to know how the selection process is conducted. It’s the system (that is the problem), not so much on the number of places." He added that the issue is transparency and that what's happening in Malaysia is not that much different from other countries.
"In all countries, not everyone who applies gets a place in universities,"he said.
