Kuala Lumpur: Ministry of Education Malaysia officially announces school reopening dates during today’s press conference (1st July).
For almost four months, over 5.7 million students were unable to attend school due to the global health pandemic, COVID-19.
Today, it is announced that all students will be able to return back to school by the end of the month. On July 15th, students from form 6 (first semester), form 1 to form 4, and standard 5 and 6 are expected to return to school. The remaining students from standard 1 to 4 will be able to return to school on July 22nd.
Three modals are introduced to accommodate the return of students to schools, including
Modal 1: allowing students in the same session to attend school under the condition that the classrooms have enough space while still adhering to the social distancing rule.
Modal 2: Dual session. This modal is created for existing schools with two sessions or schools with one session that do not have enough space to accommodate all of the students together.
Modal 3: Rotation. For schools with lack of space to accommodate all their students. Form five and six students from these schools must attend classes every day while the rest of students will be rotated. This modal should be the last option if schools tried but failed to operate under Model 2.
For modal 3, the lessons will be conducted in a “hybrid” fashion. Face to face session at school and home based learning for those who cannot attend class.
