Recently, TalentCorp revealed 10 of the hottest jobs offered by current employers and projected to remain in demand by future employers. These included mathematicians, actuaries and statisticians, information and communication technology (ICT) managers, electronics, ship, aircraft and aeronautical engineers, telecommunications engineers, graphics designers and multimedia professors, systems analysts, data science and technicians.
With the jobs listed, it is no surprise that most scholarships offered by large companies such as CIMB, Hong Leong, Gamuda, and more are only focusing on those career fields.
According to the CEO of TalentCorp, Shareen Shariza Ghani, in addition to the areas that are the main criteria, employers are also looking for graduates who have analytical and problems solving skills. Above all, many employers are looking for those who can write and speak fluently in English. In light of producing great employees, TalentCorp will be partnering with several leading local universities where the best graduates will be offered opportunities for training and working in companies located in Singapore and other countries in Asia.
She said, “Graduates want to explore the world. TalentCorp offers training in the ASEAN region and also includes APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) countries. There are several Malaysian companies operating throughout the ASEAN region such as CIMB.” She also spoke on the opportunities that will be available to successful graduates who show outstanding performance. So, the real question is, do you have what it takes to seize this opportunity?
Meanwhile, the former director of corporate responsibility at Khazanah Nasional Berhad said that he hoped that the current Malaysian Education Development Plan will provide quality education to produce more skilled and knowledgeable employees that will be able meet the current and future workforce needs. This is definitely something to keep in mind. If you want to be a successful graduate with a high chance of getting a good job, you will need to be skilled and knowledgeable.
With regards to English proficiency, the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) recently expressed frustration over the continuing shortage of employees that can speak and write fluently in English, mostly among university graduates. So, we can’t blame companies for not offering jobs to graduates because, at the end of the day, it is very important to be fluent in the world’s major communication language.
MEF’s executive director, Shamsuddin Bardan, said that although there were around 200,000 unemployed graduates in Malaysia, the majority of them were not proficient in English. Most companies offer jobs especially in sales and services sectors which contributes to 60% of the national economy and require employees who are fluent in English.
To sum it all up, if you want to guarantee employment after graduation, among making sure that you are skilled and knowledgeable in your specific field it is very important to make sure that you can fluently write and speak English.
