Overview

The Monbukagakusho: MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of
Japan) offers scholarships to Malaysian students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship Program for the academic year 2021. Applicants must be Malaysian citizens and meet the qualifications stated below.

Criteria

Applicant must meet all the below requirements

  • Age: Applicants must be Malaysian passport holders’ age between 17 to 22 years old as of 1
    April 2020 (i.e. born between 2 April 1996 and 1 April 2004). Applicants must have email and
    Malaysian address.
  • Academic Background: Applicants must have completed SPM or UEC with at least eleven (11)
    years of formal education (excluding remove class). STPM students (lower or upper) and those
    who will sit for A-Level, Diploma, or Matriculation examination this year may also apply, provided
    that the results will be known by March 202. Use your SPM result to apply.
  • Academic requirement:
    • Natural Science: SPM/UEC 9A (A+ or A) including both Mathematics & Add Math, English, Chemistry, Physics/Biology. STPM A- or GPA 3.6 in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics/Biology and Band 5 in MUET. A-Level/Matriculation A in Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Physics/ Biology. Diploma CGPA 3.4 and above in related field of study.
    • Social Science: STPM/UEC 9A (A+ or A) including Mathematics and English. STPM A- or GPA 3.6 in Mathematics and Band 5 in MUET. A-Level/Matriculation A in Mathematics and English. Diploma CGPA 3.4 and above in related field of study.
  • Japanese Language: Applicants must (be willing to) learn the Japanese language and (to)
    receive university education in the Japanese language.

Amount Info

Estimated monthly allowances of 117,000 yen (subject to change) will be given to each grantee during the term of his / her scholarship. Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at universities will be exempted.

The tenure of scholarship is 5 years except for Medicine and Dentistry 7 years as from April 2021 inclusive of 1-year intensive Japanese language Course. The grantee who has graduated and been admitted into the master’s course of a graduate school during the term of scholarship could have his/her term of scholarship extended as a result of selection. Scholarship term will be extended for two years at the maximum, and no extension shall be made beyond this period.

  1. Attachment: Please attach a certified copy of SPM or STPM+MUET or A-Level+MUET or UEC or Matriculation examination result (certified by issuer only) with the fully completed form. Do not send any documents other than application form and copy of result.
  2. Field of Study: Applicants must state very clearly either {Social Science & Humanities}, {Natural Science A}, {Natural Science B} or {Natural Science C} on the top right-hand of the application form.
  3. Educational Background: Please fill in ALL columns, DO NOT leave any column BLANK.
  4. Number of Submission: Only ONE (1) application per individual. Two applications will be disqualified immediately.
  5. Closing Date: Your application form must reach the Embassy of Japan before 4:00 p.m. 3 April 2020 (Friday) to qualify. Late applications will not be considered.
  6. Submitting of Application Form: All applications should be submitted directly to:

  7. Envelope containing application form must indicate “MEXT SCHOLARSHIP 2021 – UNDERGRADUATE” on the top left-hand corner. Use only A4 size envelope.
  8. No correspondence can be entered into as to why an applicant has not been short-listed. No request related to this matter will be entertain.
  9. Only qualified applicants will be notified via email to sit for a written examination in Kuala Lumpur tentatively between May to June 2020. Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview based on the results of the written examination.
