This field is one of the traditional arts courses which provides you with useful knowledge about different languages such as English, French, Spanish and/or German.
The programme will enable school-leavers with an interest in languages on the one hand and literature and other forms of cultural expression (e.g. film, visual arts, popular or traditional music, theatre) on the other, to act as ‘cultural mediators’, i.e. as professionals who are in the business of explaining and interpreting Malaysia to other nationalities and other cultures to the Malaysians. These professionals may be educators, journalists, PR personnel or organizers of cultural events and educational tours.
For students in this field, postgraduate study is a great opportunity towards getting a specialized field of interest. Some may like to take up journalism, others might like to study a specific language and become an expert at it and others might be interested in cinematic arts and/or public relations, and comparative linguistics. Other people might also be interested in going into education, cultural studies, humanities, social sciences. The options are many and you are only limited by your imagination.
Students have a number of options in terms of language and literature. Options may include Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German Tamil, Spanish and other languages. Besides learning languages, students will study many cultural attributes associated with the language they are learning.
Also, there are other fields such as translation, interpretations, linguistics and other disciplines.
If you have a passion for language, this is the perfect course for you. If you are not sure about this, take the following personality tests and see what suits you.
