The Canadian Pre-University (CPU) and Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) are pre-university courses offered by private institutions of higher learning. Both courses are the same and are approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

What Makes It Special

CPU and CIMP are very different from some of the other programmes and is far more student-centred. Very similar to ADP/ADTP, CPU and CIMP do not have a particular governing body other than their respective universities.

Students have to obtain a minimum of 5 credits in their SPM examinations including English, Science and Mathematics in order to enrol into CPU/CIMP. Students who have completed their UEC are also eligible to apply.

Available Subjects

The programme offers a wide range of subject options, to cater to each student’s unique interests.

Assessment Method

Study years: Students are required to complete six Grade 12 subjects, 10 hours of community service, and pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test in order to graduate. In addition, they are obligated to pass the LAN subjects, which are required in Malaysian universities.

Exam: This course takes approximately one year (two semesters) with a 30% final year examination and 70% coursework which will be evaluated throughout the academic year in the form of tests, attendance, quizzes etc.

Grades: The grading system per subject is 70% coursework and 30% final exam, with some final score adjustments during internal reassessment. The 70% coursework is evaluated using the Blended Median method. The final average (mean of 6 subjects) is of absolute value (non-bell-curved) out of 100%.

RM13,000 to RM35,000 depending on the institution. Some of the science subjects will cost higher.

How to Apply

The main intake for this course is in January with two other intakes in March and July. For the January intake, the exams are in May or June while for the July intake, the exams are around November or December.
