A Welder is a person who has training in and is capable of welding ferrous and nonferrous metals in all positions using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.

Market Demand

Although the country has created over 400,000 jobs last year, Malaysia is still in search for more highly skilled workers. According to the Institute of Labour Market Information and Analysis (ILMIA), Malaysia lacked employees with specialisation. Currently on 28% of the 12.7 million strong labour force of Malaysia is made up of high-skilled workers.

A certification in welding is necessary to get employed. These certifications can be obtained from welding schools and vocational schools. Some employers provide on-the-job training, but many prefer to hire welders with formal training. Formal training for welders is available in vocational schools and community colleges such as the Welding Institute of Malaysia.
