The applicant must possess a Bachelor's degree (with honours) in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from recognised universities with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00
Master's :
A Master’s Degree (with thesis) in a relevant field with minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.75
Applicant from a local public university who is in the final semester of his/her Master study programme may be considered for provisional admission provided his/her current cumulative grade point average (CGPA) fulfil the graduate program requirement.
Important Note: Diploma is not offered for this course. Students can enrol for a pre-university programme in science stream before applying for a degree in Veterinary Science. This degree is equivalent to a Medical degree so you’ll graduate to be a doctor specialising in animals. .
It is not necessary for you to do your postgraduate but doing so would help you advance in your career and open up more job opportunities. You can opt to work straight after degree as well.
Vets need to be able to adapt to the changes in their field and advances in technology. Veterinary science is constantly changing and in some states, it is compulsory to refine and update your skills. You’ll need to be versatile and ready to adapt.
You’ll need to be able to diagnose animals, all of whom cannot speak (Unless you’re Dr. Doolittle!). You have to be able to understand animals based on only what you see, and be able to correctly determine what’s wrong, which requires some skill!
You care about animals, sometimes a little too much. It requires skills that cannot be taught, namely empathy when dealing with sick animals and their owners, to truly care for both, to treat not the disease, but the patient.
