UTM has over 100 years of history in producing talents in science and technology. It started as a technical school at Weld Road (now Jalan Raja Chulan), Kuala Lumpur in 1904 before it was upgraded to a technical college in 1941. In 1972, the technical college was further upgraded to a national institute for technology (Institut Teknologi Kebangsaan, ITK) offering degree-level programmes in engineering, architecture, surveying, as well as science and humanities. In 1975, the institute reached another milestone when it was officially declared as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the name which is still in use to this date.

Today, UTM has 14 faculties, six schools and one continuing education institute serving over 17,000 students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. UTM has produced over 182,000 graduates since 1972, offering education opportunities not only for the domestic market but also for international students from more than 60 countries.

What You Should Know About the University

• Student Accommodation

Students enrolled under the UTM Foundation Programme will have the option of staying at on-campus accommodation in UTM Johor Bahru. Students may also opt to stay in rented accommodations outside UTM Johor Bahru. UTM strongly advises students to stay within the UTM Johor Bahru campus in order to access the various on-campus learning facilities.

But due to the current pandemic situation, students are not allowed to come to campus ground until they are told to do so.
