What is Physics?

Physics is the study of theoretical, experimental, and applicational methods of the physical laws of nature.

Are one of your heroes Stephen Hawking? Was one of your favourite subjects in school physics? Do you know all Newton’s 3 principles by heart? Are one of your heroes Stephen Hawking? Was one of your favourite subjects in school physics? Do you know all Newton’s 3 principles by heart? Do you watch the Big Bang Theory, and more than just laugh at the jokes, actually want to gain a deeper understanding about the matter they talk about, such as String Theory? If so, then you may want to consider taking up Physics as your major in university. Here, we will give you a calculated analysis on the matter and help you derive if it’s the right course for yourself.

Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. Physics challenges our imaginations with concepts like relativity and string theory, and it leads to great discoveries, like computers and lasers. This leads to technologies which change our lives, from healing joints, to curing cancer, to developing sustainable energy solutions. Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. Moreover, it’s the basis of many other sciences, including chemistry, oceanography, seismology and astronomy (and can be applied to biology or medical science).

How does your education pathway look like?

What skills do you need for a Physics course?

Problem Solver

Physicists are problem solvers. Their analytical skills make physicists versatile and adaptable so they work in interesting places.

Visionary

Physics brings a broad perspective to any problem. Because they learn how to consider any problem they are not bound by context. This inventive thinking makes physicists desirable in any field.

Versatile

Physicians need not stick to their subject too closely. You can be a mathematician, an engineer in any discipline, indeed take on most subjects and topics at all. Explore the universe, develop laser technology, solve a world energy crisis – and so on and so forth.
