What is Law?

Law is a ruling system, a set of rules and regulations which applies to all members of a society governed by the judiciary system of that country.

Are you really good at memorizing? While all your friends struggled with History and trying to recollect obscure dates, you wished all other subjects were exactly like it. Did you enjoy arguing, not silly shouting contests over something idiotic, but a thought provoking, articulate debate perhaps? Do you also like those powdered puffy white wigs that judges use? Law provides a broad scope of work, allowing legal professionals to pursue opportunities in corporate, private, government and international settings. In all cases, lawyers are well-trained advisors to their clients, providing support in a variety of legal matters, civil or criminal.

How does your education pathway look like?

What skills do you need for a Law course?

Well-read

Law students get a reputation for clocking up the library hours because each week you need to learn what the law actually is and academics’ opinions of it from scratch, and neither of these will be particularly short.

Confident

Maybe you were a debater. Maybe you took part in public speaking. Either way, you’re fine speaking in front of a crowd, calm enough to get your point across, and collected enough to convince them that you’re right!

Hard worker

If you think they exaggerated how much Marshall had to study to become a lawyer in How I met Your Mother, I’ve got some bad news for you. Lawyers need to work extremely hard, and this usually involves sleepless nights and the burning of too many midnight oils.
