Unfortunately, dentistry is similar to medicine in terms of its minimum entry requirements. It is much stricter and requires a science background, particularly a minimum of 5Bs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and another subject. While you may pursue a science-based pre-u programme after SPM, you will still need to have achieved the mentioned scores during your SPM.

The option you have if you would still like to pursue dentistry is to retake your SPM with the subjects mentioned above and progress to a Foundation in Science course for a 'fast track' option.

Principal passes refer to the grade; in this case, principal passes are grade C and above. Furthermore, 'one sitting' means that you completed the exams without repeating them; that is, you passed them in the first time that you took the exams.

There are certainly pros and cons to any of the pathways you choose after SPM. It all depends on which one you prioritise the most.

A diploma programme is a good choice for those who wish to pursue a career immediately after their studies, as it typically takes 2-3 years to complete and you can enter the workforce upon completion. Besides that, certain diploma programmes have required internships attached to the programme, thus giving you ample experience and a glance into the working world. Depending on the field you choose and the industry it is in, you may even have a higher chance of securing a job compared to a degree holder. However, salaries may vary considerably with those of degree holders depending on the organisation.

With a degree, you may have a wider scope of job opportunities. Once again, it depends on the industry and whether you have significant experience as different employers and organisations prioritise differently. Since a degree would perhaps take longer to complete, you may not be able to gain experience during your degree as you would with a diploma programme.

Yes, you may apply for a graphic design course even if you did not take an Art subject in your SPM exams. Do note that you will be required to go through a pre-u programme before you can pursue a bachelor's degree in graphic design (e.g. A-Levels, STPM, Diploma, Foundation etc.). As you did not take an Art subject in SPM, you will very likely be required to submit an art portfolio or sit for an art assessment before pursuing the graphic design programme to determine whether you are suitable to undergo the programme. Thus, it is very important that you begin compiling an art portfolio that includes samples of drawings, sketches, paintings or any other form of artistic work.

The minimum entry requirement to study Dentistry in Malaysia would be at least 5 Bs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (or Additional Mathematics) and another subject in your SPM. Unfortunately, regardless of how well you perform in your Pre-University course, SPM results still carry weight in determining your entry into a Dentistry course later on.

If your SPM results do not meet the requirement, fret not! You can still look into Biomedical Sciences, Optometry and Dietician. They are all still very much in the field of Sciences as Dentistry. 

Do note that all these course suggested would require you to do a Pre-University course preferably in Science stream such as STPM, A-Levels or a Foundation in Science first. There are various pre-university options for you such as A-Levels, Diploma, Matriculation and Foundation in Science. Do note that the minimum grade required for a medical degree would be 5 Bs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (or Additional Mathematics) and another subject in SPM. As for studies pathways, we suggest pursuing a Pre-University course in any relevant discipline such as A-Levels or a Foundation in Science then go for a Degree in Marine Biology. However, you must note that before you can pursue your degree, you must go through a pre-u programme. You can read about the different pre-u programmes at this link to help you choose.

If you are certain about the university you want to study in, you can take a Foundation in Science and continue into the Pharmacy field.

Perhaps you could provide us with more details. Which stream were you studying in during secondary school? Which branch of mathematics are you most interested in? Once you have provided us with the details, we can help you further.

There are many courses that put an emphasis on mathematics, such as actuarial science, engineering (this is good if you are also interested in science and studied it in secondary school), economics, accounting, statistics, computer science and many more.

Most of these courses are offered at all universities in Malaysia, though some are better than others.
