Hi Shazal,

Unfortunately in order to be eligible to pursue a degree in Computer Science, you will need at least a credit in SPM/O-level Additional Mathematics, no matter what pre-university qualification you hold. But if you are interested in pursuing a Diploma in Computer Science, Nilai University and Lincoln University College are among some universities that offer the course. You may be eligible to enter if you have at least 3 credits including Math in SPM/O-levels.

Hope this helps!

Hello Yannae,

1. You cannot use your ADP certificate to apply for UPU as it is not an actual cert on its own. UPU also does not have a category for ADP certification. Furthermore, the American syllabus is also different from the Malaysian syllabus as well.

However, you can apply and transfer your credits to local universities through direct application to the universities themselves. This is because MQA has recently amended their policy on credit transfers from overseas universities back to local universities as they recognise the problem of rising costs when the currency drops. Therefore, you can refer to this link for more information about that. However, take note that the credits you want to transfer will have to be recognised by the university to successfully transfer the credits.

2. For the STPM option, this link will lead you to information on how to apply for STPM 2019 as a private candidate. Please refer to article 7.2:

We hope this helps :)

Hi Izzah,

You can refer to one of the articles we wrote about this topic where we compared all the pre-university programmes: Which Pre-U Course Should You Choose?

The shortest pre-university program would be AUSMAT which takes only 11 months. A more affordable option for you would be Foundation and it only takes one year as well.

Here are a few universities that offer Foundation courses:

SEGi University & Colleges Kota Damansara
International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW)
IIUM - International Islamic University Malaysia

If you are interested in any of them, you can fill up the form on the right hand column of the page, and our counsellors will get back to you soon :)

Feel free to browse through our site as well to find out more about pre-university courses and the institutions that offer them.

Hope this helps :)

Hello Yunnae,

We are very sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, UPU for SPM level applications is only open to those who have taken SPM two years prior to the current year. As for direct intake to government universities, current SPM leavers are generally prioritised first as well.

However, no worries, there are other ways that you can take to complete your studies in Malaysia:
1. STPM

- If you really want to study at a government university, we highly suggest that you go for STPM as it is the cheapest option as well as because is it internationally recognised too. After you complete your STPM, you will be able to apply for the degree-level UPU, or even apply overseas for your degree. However, there is an age limit of 20 years and below for STPM in secondary schools, so if you are above the age limit, we would suggest that you take the private candidate route instead, where you will be self-studying with the help of tutors for the exams.

2. Diploma

- We do not recommend you to take this route for various reasons. First of all, a diploma takes 2.5-3 years to complete, and after credit transfers to your degree is done, your degree will then take another 2.5-3 years to complete as well. Therefore, it will cost you around a total of 6 years to complete your degree. Furthermore, you will have to pay your way through both the diploma and degree in comparison with having an almost-free education with STPM and only paying for your degree later on.

3. Private route

- If you do not want your ADP credits to go to waste, you can also choose to try transferring these credits to international university branches in Malaysia such as Monash University or Curtin University to complete your degree earlier. This is because ADP courses are not only transferable to US universities, but also UK and Australian universities as well. However, please keep in mind that different universities have different requirements for transferring credits, so please refer to the individual universities themselves.

We hope all this information helped in clearing your worries. Feel free to drops us any other questions that you have on this topic. We wish you all the best!
